Wood or electricity?

Srovnání dvou typů saunových kamen: vlevo černá kamna na dřevo s prosklenými dvířky, vpravo elektrickáí kamna s otevřeným košem plným saunových kamenů.

A question that is asked by everyone who chooses their sauna. For someone a clear choice, for another a dilemma. In the article you will find out what kind of sauna stoves we use in saunas What a Hut, and what is their main difference.

Wood burning for your perfect sauna experience

The wood-burning stove for the sauna is for everyone who likes slow saunas associated with the ritual and smell of wood. Electricity will not replace this experience — and you will not discover it in the Czech Republic, perhaps only in cottages or tiny houses for rent.

The Finnish wood-burning sauna heats up in about 45-90 minutes depending on the type of stove you choose and the type of wood you are heating with. We recommend a combination of soft spruce wood for heating and harder, such as beech, oak or walnut, to keep the fire.

In our garden saunas What a Hut you will find two brands of sauna stoves — HUUM (Estonia) and Narvi (Finland). Both are attached to the firebox from inside the sauna, so you can enjoy the view of the fire and its natural soft light, which is also the only lighting in the space. In addition, the gentle crackle of wood and its unmistakable aroma accompany the entire sauna cycle.

The Narvi stove is made of sheet metal, quickly heats up and manages to heat the air in the sauna in about 45-60 minutes. HUUM stoves have a steel basket, which, depending on the type, is filled with up to 150 kg of stones. They take longer to warm up, approximately 60—90 minutes, during which time they accumulate heat into the stones, which then hold significantly longer. The steam from them is softer and denser at the same time, so they are ideal for the so-called”soft steam” sauna, which raises the humidity and thus the feeling temperature in the Finnish sauna.

You can control the temperature simply — by supplying air under the firebox. Once you reach the ideal temperature around 80-90°C, close the supply and the stove will only retain heat.

Wood has its charm. It's not just a way of heating, it's part of the ritual and authentic sauna experience.

One click and with electric stoves your fatigue will wash away instantly

Electric sauna stoves, on the other hand, are for those who want to have an electric sauna ready on the way home from work or from skiing. They are accurate, reliable and ideal for everyday use.

We always connect them to the HUUM controller, which you can control either directly on site or conveniently via the mobile app. Sauna must only be within reach of Wi-Fi network.

We use electric stoves again from the brands Narvi and HUUM. The Narvi stove heats up to 90 °C in about an hour. They are fast, economical and suitable for frequent home saunas. HUUM stoves reach 80 °C in about 90 minutes, thanks to the larger number of stones they retain heat for longer — similar to wood stoves.

We equip electric saunas with warm LED lighting, which is dimmable, so you can easily adjust the atmosphere according to your mood.

From the point of view of installation, the electric stove requires several steps — it is necessary to prepare the electricity supply and grounding on the plot. Together with the stove, we will also provide you with an electrical project and a revision. Thus, the cost of acquisition is more expensive, but the reward is convenience and the opportunity to have a garden sauna ready in one click.
